Where to Buy a Pop Card

Getting your first Pop Card is straightforward. You can buy one online, at a staffed Metro station, or from a number of retailers across Tyne & Wear.

Online

The easiest way to get a Pop PAYG card is to order one online at nexus.org.uk. The card is free but must be purchased with a minimum £5 balance. Once you receive it, you do not need to do anything extra — if you ordered online, the card is already registered. Cards can be ordered and topped up on the Nexus website.

At a Metro station ticket machine

You can get a Pop PAYG card at any Metro station ticket machine. Select the Pop card option, load your initial £5 minimum balance, and the machine will issue a card on the spot.

Nexus Travel Shops and Payzone outlets

Unfortunately, all Nexus Travel Shops have now permanently closed, and payzone outlets no longer issue cards. Ticket machines at Metro stations and online options are the quickest and easiest methods available.

What you need

No ID is required to get a standard Pop PAYG card. For concessionary cards (Under 16, Metro Gold Card etc.) additional documentation is required — see our concessionary fares guide for details.
